If I only have $493 in wages and $24 withheld do I need to file for a federal or Ca. state tax return?
And if so are there any sites that offer free federal and state online tax preparation and e-file?

I think the best way to help working families would be to raise the std deduction to $30,000?
Additional 2-6 people would be $10,000 and any more $2000. This would eliminate any income tax for all making less than $30,000 and simplify most tax preparation for most of the country. Raise corporate taxes and raise rate on all brackets that are left to pay for it

I do tax preparation as an extra job during tax season. We have an option for our clients to get their refund back in 1-3 days. We transmit the return via the Internet, and then in 1-3 days we get notification that the return has been accepted by the IRS and we can print out their refund check right here in my office
